Continuum
Project Overview
Spring 2026
Continuum is an experimental design publication exploring visual systems through editorial design, interaction, and material experimentation. Volume 01, Systems, examines how form, shape, type, structure, material, and input operate as interconnected frameworks within creative practice. Combining research, generative processes, physical interaction, and original visual work, the publication transforms design from a static artifact into an active system that readers can engage with directly through tactile and participatory elements.
Objectives & Approach
1. Investigate visual design through systems.
2. Explore how constraint, structure, and variation influence the creative process and perception.
3. Create a tactile, interactive publication that encourages active engagement.
4. Combine research, generative methods, and physical experimentation.
Results & Impact
Continuum — Volume 01: Systems resulted in the development of a fully designed editorial publication exploring design through interconnected systems of form, shape, type, structure, material, and input. The project combined research, generative design methods, interactive print concepts, and original visual experimentation into a cohesive publication framework.
Alongside the editorial content, the project also produced supporting systems, including the modular typeface Diabolical, interactive page concepts, and a generative layout tool developed through Python and DrawBot.

Moving Forward
Due to time constraints, the publication was not fully printed and hand-bound during the project timeline. Moving forward, the next phase will focus on physical production, including paper testing, fabrication of interactive components, printing, and binding, to fully realize the publication's tactile and participatory aspects. Future iterations of Continuum will continue expanding into new systems, processes, and interdisciplinary areas while maintaining its foundation in design-driven inquiry.
